P: load in N;

L: length of the tapered rod m;

π: 3.14 (constant)

E: Modulus of Elasticity in N/m2;

d1: initial diameter of the rod in m;

d2: final diameter of the rod in m

In many structural components, the tapered rods are used as the load carrying members where the strength (ultimate tensile strength) of the component must be evaluated based on the deflection. From the above formula it is evident that, as the Modulus of Elasticity (E) increases, the deflection in the rod decreases.
