l: length of the rod or bar in m;

A: cross sectional area of the bar or rod m^{2};

E: Modulus of Elasticity in N/m^{2};

The stress developed in a material can be calculated by the calculated deflection for an applied load. From the formula, it is evident that when the Modulus of Elasticity (E) and the cross sectional area (A) are more for a material, the deflection will be less.
