α: thermal expansion coefficient (/degree centigrade);

l: length of the bar in m;

t1: initial temperature of the bar in degree centigrade;

t2: final temperature of the bar in degree centigrade

The thermal strain of the bar is directly proportional to the thermal expansion coefficient of the material. For a material to have less thermal strain, it is said to have very less thermal expansion coefficient.
