International Hackathon on Human–Robot Collaboration for Space Mission Tasks

Dates: July 25–27, 2026
Mode: Online
Organized by: Wings of Aero
Convenor: Ms. Suguna B, Co-Founder & CBO, Wings of Aero

1] About the Hackathon

Human–robot collaboration is at the heart of future space exploration. From lunar construction to orbital repairs, from scientific sampling to emergency rescue operations in space, the synergy between astronauts and intelligent robotic systems is crucial for mission success.

The International Hackathon on Human–Robot Collaboration for Space Mission Tasks aims to bring together innovators, AI enthusiasts, engineers, and researchers to design next-generation collaborative systems that enhance safety, efficiency, and autonomy during complex space operations.

Participants will develop software algorithms, interface designs, robotic concepts, and collaborative frameworks that enable seamless shared control, decision-making, and task execution between humans and robots in extraterrestrial environments.

2] Problem Statements / Tracks (10 Total)

Track 1: Shared Autonomy Framework for Human–Robot Teams

Problem: Astronauts need flexible shared control with robots during EVA and IVA tasks.
Expected Solution: AI-driven shared autonomy models enabling smooth transitions between manual, assisted, and autonomous modes.

Track 2: Human–Robot Communication Interfaces for Space Missions

Problem: Communication delays and harsh environments make interaction difficult.
Expected Solution: Gesture-based, voice-based, or AR-based intuitive control systems for astronauts operating robots.

Track 3: Lunar/Martian Construction Robot Collaboration System

Problem: Habitat assembly requires coordinated human–robot task distribution.
Expected Solution: Task-planning algorithms, collaborative workflows, or robotic tool systems for construction.

Track 4: Human–Robot Coordination in Orbital Repair & Maintenance

Problem: Spacecraft repairs require precise and safe handovers between humans and robotic manipulators.
Expected Solution: Control algorithms, interfaces, or simulation-based systems enabling precise cooperation.

Track 5: Robotics for Astronaut Health & Safety Monitoring

Problem: Continuous astronaut wellbeing monitoring is essential during long missions.
Expected Solution: Robotic assistants capable of detecting stress, fatigue, or medical anomalies.

Track 6: Autonomous Robots for Planetary Sample Retrieval

Problem: Terrain complexity affects sample collection efficiency and safety.
Expected Solution: Robots that collaborate with astronauts, adapt to terrain, and perform safe collection tasks.

Track 7: Collaborative Robots for Emergency & Rescue Tasks in Space

Problem: Emergencies like decompression, fire, or equipment failure require fast interventions.
Expected Solution: Semi-autonomous robotic systems supporting astronauts in emergency response.

Track 8: Multi-Agent Human–Robot Mission Control System

Problem: Coordinating multiple robots and humans from mission control is complex.
Expected Solution: Centralized or distributed AI systems for real-time coordination, task allocation, and monitoring.

Track 9: Human Factors & Ergonomics in Space Robotics

Problem: Poorly designed systems increase astronaut cognitive load.
Expected Solution: Interfaces, tools, and robot designs optimized for comfort, usability, and low cognitive stress.

Track 10: Student Open Innovation Track – Human–Robot Collaboration Concept

Problem: Open-ended innovation challenge.
Expected Solution: Any novel idea or technological solution that enhances human–robot teamwork in space missions.
