1] About the Hackathon

The International Hackathon on Advanced Space Power & Energy Storage Systems invites innovators, researchers, engineers, and students to design breakthrough solutions for the future of space energy systems. As humanity pushes toward long-duration missions—Moon, Mars, deep space probes, and orbital stations—the demand for high-efficiency power generation, robust storage, and sustainable energy management has never been greater.

This hackathon challenges participants to develop engineering concepts, simulation models, material innovations, AI-driven power management tools, and futuristic systems that can withstand the extreme conditions of space. From solar arrays and nuclear microreactors to next-generation batteries and thermal control—participants will explore real-world challenges faced by global space agencies.

2] Problem Statements / Tracks

Track 1: High-Efficiency Solar Power Systems for Lunar & Martian Missions

Problem: Low sunlight intensity, dust accumulation, and extreme temperatures reduce solar efficiency.
Expected Solution: Propose solar panel designs, dust-resistant coatings, or deployable arrays optimized for extraterrestrial environments.

Track 2: Next-Generation Battery Technologies for Space Applications

Problem: Conventional lithium-ion batteries degrade rapidly under radiation and vacuum.
Expected Solution: Explore solid-state batteries, lithium-sulfur systems, radiation-hardened chemistries, or cooling mechanisms for deep-space use.

Track 3: Compact Nuclear Power Systems for Deep-Space Missions

Problem: Deep-space environments lack sunlight; long missions need constant energy.
Expected Solution: Design microreactor concepts, safety systems, shielding, or thermal-electric conversion models.

Track 4: Energy Storage Solutions for Extreme Temperature Environments

Problem: Space environments fluctuate from -150°C to +120°C, affecting battery efficiency.
Expected Solution: Thermal insulation methods, heat pipes, phase-change materials, or adaptive temperature control systems.

Track 5: AI-Based Power Management & Load Distribution Systems

Problem: Spacecraft require intelligent distribution of power between critical subsystems.
Expected Solution: AI/ML tools for predictive energy allocation, fault detection, and real-time optimization.

Track 6: Lightweight & Modular Power Systems for Small Satellites

Problem: CubeSats and nanosatellites face strict mass, size, and power limitations.
Expected Solution: Propose compact power units, foldable solar modules, ultra-light batteries, or modular power buses.

Track 7: Wireless Power Transfer for Space Exploration

Problem: Powering robots, habitats, and surface systems without cables is a major challenge.
Expected Solution: Microwave/laser power beaming designs, safety protocols, or surface power distribution networks.

Track 8: Energy Systems for Long-Term Lunar/Martian Habitats

Problem: Habitats require stable, scalable, and clean power for life support and construction.
Expected Solution: Hybrid energy grids integrating solar, nuclear, batteries, fuel cells, or regenerative systems.

Track 9: Regenerative Fuel Cells for Space Missions

Problem: Energy storage systems must operate efficiently for years without maintenance.
Expected Solution: Fuel cell concepts, regenerative cycle designs, material enhancements, or system simulations.

Track 10: Open Innovation – Participant’s Own Idea

Participants may propose any innovative, high-impact solution aligned with space power or energy storage systems.
